One of the primary functions of a father is in the instruction of his children.

Proverbs 2:1 “My son, if you will receive my sayings…”

Proverbs 3:1 “My son, do not forget my teaching.”

Proverbs 4:1 “Hear, O songs, the instructions of a father…”

Proverbs 4: 10 “hear, my son, and accept my sayings.”

Proverbs 4:20 “My son, give attention to my words.”

Proverbs 5:1 “My son, give attention to my wisdom”

Proverbs 6:20 “My son, observe the commandment of your father.”

Proverbs 7:1 “My son, keep my words.”

  1. A Wise and Godly Father teaches his children to fear God Proverbs 1:7, 9:10
  2. A Wise and Godly father teaches his children to guard their mind

    Proverbs 3:3 Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you;
bind them around your neck;  write them on the tablet of your heart.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance,
for from it flow the springs of life

  3. A Wise and Godly father teaches his children to honor their parents

  1. Positive aspect of fear-a reverential awe.
  2. Negative aspect of fear-
  3. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.

Trust-the Hebrew words means “to lie helplessly face down.” Act of humility, brokenness, submission to God’s total control over your life.
  4. When God is feared, so is sin. Proverbs 10:27 says “The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.”

Proverbs 19:23 says The fear of the LORD leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.
