18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 1 Peter 3:18
I. The Person on the Cross- For Christ
A. He was a Substitutionary Sacrifice-“the righteous for the unrighteous”
B. He was a Suffering Sacrifice-“also suffered”
C. He was a Sufficient Sacrifice-“once for sins”
II. The Purpose of the Cross-
A. To absorb God's Wrath for Sin-“being put to death in the flesh”
B. Reconcile the creation to the Creator-“that he might bring us to God
C. To Show God's love for us
III. The Power of the Cross
A. Power of Sin is Broken
B. The Presence of Sin is Defeated
C. The Penalty of Sin is Paid
